Getting ready to put on the top skins today. I figured I'd post to the blog some of the pics of installing the bottom skins since I'm generally too tired to post at the end of the day. Everything is going together very well and I can't say enough about how these parts line up. I wasn't too happy with the tie down bracket. I must have tapped it about a half turn too deep. I didn't anticipate that the bracket is below the main spar so when you try to bottom out the tie down ring it deforms the skin. I have a fix. I've made a spacer that will thread onto the ring shank and keep it off the skin.
Lots and lots of clecos! |
Putting my carpenter belt to good use. Makes riveting much faster. |
Inboard skin done. On to the outboard skin. |
Bottom skins on and wing right side up now. Took a bit of coaxing to get the leading edge rolled over . |
Time to close it up! |
